At CM Dental Care, we strive to provide outstanding preventative and comprehensive dental care for children from infancy to adolescence so that they can enjoy a lifetime of healthy smiles.
Our goal is to help each child enter adulthood with good oral habits, so our focus is on prevention and education which is a collaborative effort between the parents, child and our team of healthcare professionals.
How often do children need to see a dentist?
Children should visit the dentist twice a year for a check-up and professional cleaning if necessary.
At what age does a child first need to see a dentist?
Bring your infant to the dentist as soon as their first tooth erupts, or before their first birthday, so they become accustomed to the sights, sounds and smells of the dental surgery. Biannual check-ups enable your dentist to monitor your child’s oral health and development for issues such as thumb sucking and misalignment.
What can I do to help protect my child’s teeth?
Parents play a key role in a child’s oral health. Be a good role model for your child. Here are some suggestions to help your child maintain good oral health:
- Make brushing their teeth a ritual. 30 minutes after breakfast and before going to bed is a good time to establish an oral hygiene routine.
- Pay attention to your child’s diet and avoid giving them snacks high in sugar, or sugary, carbonated beverages.
- Supervise their brushings up until about age 10 and ensure they use proper brushing and flossing techniques.
Should my child get dental sealants?
Dental sealants, especially on molars, help your child avoid cavities and tooth decay.
The procedure is simple and non-invasive. The dentist places a protective coating on the top of the molar to help keep out bacteria. The coating also makes the surface of the tooth easier to clean.
